The Austrian Hauptarmee was originally intended to assault Bavaria from the northern side of the River Danube, from the direction of Bohemia, but this plan was changed after argument was lost by it’s Commander – Archduke Charles with the Aulic Council, as it would initially uncover the roads to Vienna, and any reverse could lead to disaster.
Despite the terrain being more favourable, and a quick strike from the North, Archduke Charles decided to split his forces into 2, with the main thrust being South of the Danube and heading over several river crossings into the Bavarian heartland.
We are using “Armies on the Danube 1809” by Scott Bowden and Charles Tarbox, published by The Emperor’s Press in 1989 (ISBN 0-913037-08-7) for most of the ORBATS, and hope to start the Campaign using the new GdA2 Ruleset due out in March 2024.
We will be adding a few pictures of the troops to be used, a mixture of different manufacturers in 15mm scale. As a solo-campaign, we will be concentrating on a homegrown set of Campaign rules, using the maps and pieces from the “1809, Napoleon’s Danube Campaign” boardgame by Victory Games Inc. and fighting many of the actions on the tabletop – from minor skirmishes, to full scale battles!
We hope you enjoy!
