The Bavarian Army awaits the advancing Austrian forces at Altdorf.
The Austrian Army has crossed into Bavaria on April 10th 1809, and seized the crossing at Landshut from General of Division Deroy’s Bavarian 7th Corps. The Bavarian position was outflanked upriver at Moosburg, and so pulled back across the rough terrain to Altdorf, blocking the enemy’s northward advance.

The Austrian advanced guard commander (Radetzky) ordered a combined arms assault after softening up the position with his 6lbdr Horse Artillery. The high ground to the left flank of the Bavarian held town, as well as the central valley came under immediate attack, but the first assault was repulsed. Austrian reinforcements under General-Major Lindenau (2nd Brigade) and General-Major Mayer (1st Brigade) both moved to attack the position, and eventually the Austrian 3rd Uhlan regiment broke the Bavarian Cavalry under Seydewitz on the Austrian right, and swept down the slopes to cut off the retreat route. Deroy committed Vincenti’s 1st Brigade to halt the Austrian attack, and pulled back his Division up the valley towards Prettrach, covered by Preysing’s two regiments of Chevauxleger.

With Altdorf captured, we now turn to the northern theatre, and Marshall Davout is trying to hold Reinhausen on the River Danube.
